About the Taubman Approach

The Taubman Approach to piano playing provides a body of knowledge that can lead to effortless technique and expressive freedom at the piano. Dorothy Taubman analyzed the movements needed to play the piano virtuosically and she gave this information a language. Her work has cured pianists of pain, injury, and technical limitation and provides a framework for teaching and learning tone production and expressive playing. Because of Ms. Taubman’s work and the continuation of this work by Edna Golandsky, pianists do not have to be hindered by playing-related injuries including tendonitis, thoracic outlet syndrome, and dystonia. The Taubman Approach provides an alternative to playing through pain and working too hard at the piano. This approach gives pianists comfort, physical health, confidence, and technical and expressive freedom.
